Measuring and Interpreting the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon
Fred Gray
University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign
Abstract
The Brookhaven Muon (g-2) Collaboration has recently
measured the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon to a
precision of 0.7 ppm. The Standard Model prediction for
this quantity can be calculated with a similar uncertainty.
Comparison of the theoretical and experimental values tests
the Standard Model and proves for physics beyond it. In this talk,
I will describe the principle of the experiment and the status
of the theoretical evaluations. However, I will concentrate
on the details of the analysis of the recently published
data from our year 2000 run.
