Abstract:
Is there a hint for a new Z boson in the precision data?

The current electroweak data from atomic parity violation and elsewhere are described better when an additional neutral gauge boson is included. Among the possibilities are the extra Z' bosons predicted in simple SO(10) Grand Unified Theories. If gauge coupling unification is assumed, the mass of the hypothesized particle can be constraint and turns out to be typically below 1 TeV.
