1/2 lb lentils 1 medium onion, thinly sliced 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 1/4 cup ghee or oil 2 tsp ground coriander 2 tsp ground cumin 2 tsp ground turmeric 1 tsp ground chili 4 cardamom pods 4 cloves 2 inch cinnamon stick 1 1/2 tsp salt 4 oz coconut milk

Wash lentils in water. Simmer in saucepan with enough water to cover, until soft.

Fry onion and garlic in oil until soft. Add ground spices, mix, cook 2 minutes. Add whole spices, stir well. Add water if needed.

Add salt and coconut milk. Cook 5 minutes.
