- Note
that HEPDB allows one to use more complex data structures. However,
we are restricting ourselves to the simplest possible structure so
that we can easily interface the database to C. A C-callable fortran
routine to fetch the object and place it in a structure in flat memory
is much simpler to write if the objects themselves are flat. Note
that it is not a limitation of C which impels us to do this, it is
just a way to keep things simple.

- ...information
-
Use VMS syntax when specifying pathnames in snodb.config,
and escape all dollar symbols in the pathnames with a
backslash. For example,
``official dbase file dir'',''dkb$200:[cdsno.dbs]'', #directory...
Also, the fields ``read group name,'' ``write group name'' and ``link
libraries'' only apply to UNIX systems, and are ignored on VMS systems.

- ...ownerships
- In some institutions, where the system
administrator does not allow the parent directory to belong to the
``cdsno'' account, you will need to reset the group assignment (and
some permissions) of all the created directories and files.
